". . . our stories are what make the difference, and if we can tell them honestly we can hope to help each other. In the end, we have nothing to offer each other but our stories." ~ Emma Lou Thayne

Awareness Wednesday: What's YOUR CAUSE? - American Lung Association and Shutterfly partner for the Holidays - CABF

American Lung Association Celebrates the Holidays with Shutterfly’s “Support-A-Cause” Holiday Cards

The American Lung Association is partnering again with Shutterfly, Inc., the leading Internet-based social expression and personal publishing service, on its collection of“Support-A-Cause” holiday cards this holiday season. The Lung Association will receive ten percent of Shutterfly proceeds from the sale of its “Support-A-Cause” cards.
The Lung Associations “Support-A-Cause” card line features new styles with themes inspired by our mission. Designs range from classic to modern and customers can personalize their holiday cards inside as well as outside with both photo and text layout options. Pricing is based on volume, starting as low as $1.49 per card.
“We are delighted Shutterfly is helping us drive awareness and contributions to the Lung Association again this holiday season,” said Jim Gooden, National Volunteer Chair of the American Lung Association. “We hope our Lung Association friends and family enjoy these beautiful holiday cards and will help support our important mission this season.”

Lung Disease

There are many forms of lung disease.  Use our Lung Disease Finder to get the facts and learn about symptoms, causes, treatments and more.
1) Lung cancer is the second-most commonly diagnosed cancer in both men and women. However it is still the most common cause of cancer death. (Lung and brain cancer is what took my sweet aunt this summer.)
2) Asthma is a lung disease that makes breathing difficult for millions of Americans, both young and old. There is no cure for asthma, but the good news is it can be managed and treated so you can live a normal, healthy life. ("Stitch-Kid" and I both have asthma...)
3) COPD, also known as emphysema and chronic bronchitis, is a very serious disease, and the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. The good news is that COPD is often preventable and treatable.
4) Influenza, or Flu, is a serious respiratory illness.  It is easily spread from person to person and can lead to severe complications, even death.

We ALL are at risk for getting and spreading the flu.  Having the flu may keep you home from work or school. If you have asthma or other lung diseases, you are at higher risk of developing complications from the flu.

Each year in the U.S., influenza and its related complications result in an estimated 226,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths.
