". . . our stories are what make the difference, and if we can tell them honestly we can hope to help each other. In the end, we have nothing to offer each other but our stories." ~ Emma Lou Thayne

Sunday Expressions: How Great Thou Art - Ongoing Prayer List

How Great Thou Art
(I think this is my ALL TIME FAVORITE HYMN...)
Sung by Carrie Underwood
Based on Swedish poem written by Carl Gustav Boberg
The melody is a Swedish folk song.
It was translated into English by British missionary Stuart K. Hine,
who also added two original verses of his own composition.

This is an ongoing prayer list of those that need the power of God to help them through a difficult time. Feel free to link up your list. I'll work on a button and we can make this a weekly thing as part of our Sunday posts. Just think of some of those individuals in need of prayers and post so all that read can say a little prayer. The power of prayer is an amazing thing!!

The main list will be updated weekly here and the names will be linked to the prayer list they are on.  Thank you for participating!! This Link is always open and available on the Ongoing Prayer Page.

This is the main list I will update weekly with those individuals you post in your link and link them to your post:

Today I've added:
  • My Pop was needing X-rays and further tests. While he was waiting for his X-Ray, he CODED out of the BLUE!! Tell me GOD doesn't work in mysterious ways!! He was right where he needed to be to get the HELP he NEEDED! IN the hospital. Of course he was admitted. The next day they did an angiogram and angioplasty. They found 2 blockages and took care of it. The next evening he wa HOME again! He is doing better than he was before. He's not even on his Oxygen anymore! He is a little stubborn and having a hard time with this aging bit and having to give up some of his independence. Hey! At 87 you just GOTTA' give a little! LOL! My prayer for him is one of gratitude first, that he made it through that event and procedure. AND that he will allow himself time to HEAL and recognize his limitations.  (((HUGS)))
  • ** Update... Pop is having a VERY rough night... those prayers are greatly appreciated. Mom could use them, too. She's got a LOT on her plate right now with everything going on.  *sigh*
If you have a minute to give them a comment of inspiration and say a little prayer in their behalf, that would be AWESOME!! ;D
(HE nor my mom actually have a blog... I'm working on my mom, maybe someday! So adding a little prayer or good thoughts in your heart would be SO NICE!!)   ;D

Listen to Halloween Playlist

Here are some of my favorites for Halloween!
Click what you'd like to enjoy!  ((HUGS))
Have a HAPPY and SAFE HALLOWEEN!!
Thought I'd post today since this year will be celebrated both today by some and tomorrow by others. I won't go into that debate. I also highlight my prayer list on Sundays. To me, they just don't mix quite right. LOL!!

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones
The Monster Mash
This was my FAVORITE growing up!! We would stay up till 10pm when we were visiting my dad to listen to Dr Demento. He always started with this song and followed with a SCARY STORY!! Yes, This WAS a RADIO broadcast. AND WE LOVED IT!! HAH!!  ;p

Thriller
If you've never seen the whole thing, it's pretty cool! Thriller came out when I was a cheerleader and I remember we did several drills to a few of the songs. It was fun and always brings back memories. Yes, it's kinda' corny... but you can't deny that it is AWESOME for a song/music video! You can see it at the MTV site (linked below). I tried to embed it, but it had an error.  :`(   The ones on YOUTBE are real crappy quality.
BAHAHAHA!!!

Ghostbusters
Who didn't LOVE this movie.. as corny as it was... I have a confession... I used to think Harold Ramis was HOT!! OMG!! LOL!!

This is Halloween
from Nightmare Before Christmas
Halloween just wouldn't be the same without this song and thinking of the Haunted Mansion being transformed into that theme from October to December. We had annual passes for SoCal residents when we lived in Riverside and went a LOT!!

Devil Woman
Another favorite from childhood. Came out around the same time as Monster Mash, I think...

Home is Where the HEART Is

Where do you call home - city, state and/or country?
What makes it special to you or do you dislike it terribly?

I have had so many homes in my life!!
If you want to read all about that in my Lifetime of Moving post.
We have settled down. We are HERE to STAY!!
We built our home
We put in a yard
We planted FRUIT TREES and Flowers...
That after just a few years gave us a bountiful harvest

We put a hole in the ground for family recreation
We have a beautiful view of the mountains
MOST of our children/grandchildren are within 45 mins...
Hubby has retired and LOVES to travel.
I am a TRUE HOME-BODY!!
He gets so excited to up and go...
Sometimes I have to compromise! LOL!!
We have had some AWESOME trips, though!
Hawaii X 2    SWEET!!

There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.
                                                     ~Jane Austen

Home is a shelter from storms -
all sorts of storms.  ~William J. Bennett

Home is the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other.  It is the place of confidence.  It is the place where we tear off that mask of guarded and suspicious coldness which the world forces us to wear in self-defense, and where we pour out the unreserved communications of full and confiding hearts.  It is the spot where expressions of tenderness gush out without any sensation of awkwardness and without any dread of ridicule.  ~Frederick W. Robertson

We NEVER want to move again!
We are STAYING PUT!!
Syracuse, UTAH is my HOME!  ;D

THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE IN DOMESTIC ABUSE

Domestic abuse falls into a common pattern, or cycle of violence:
  • Cycle of violenceAbuse – Your abusive partner lashes out with aggressive, belittling, or violent behavior. The abuse is a power play designed to show you "who is boss."
  • Guilt – After abusing you, your partner feels guilt, but not over what he's done. He’s more worried about the possibility of being caught and facing consequences for his abusive behavior.
  • Excuses – Your abuser rationalizes what he or she has done. The person may come up with a string of excuses or blame you for theabusive behavior—anything to avoid taking responsibility.
  • "Normal" behavior — The abuser does everything he can to regain control and keep the victim in the relationship. He may act as if nothing has happened, or he may turn on the charm. This peaceful honeymoon phase may give the victim hope that the abuser has really changed this time.
  • Fantasy and planning – Your abuser begins to fantasize about abusing you again. He spends a lot of time thinking about what you’ve done wrong and how he'll make you pay. Then he makes a plan for turning the fantasy of abuse into reality.
  • Set-up – Your abuser sets you up and puts his plan in motion, creating a situation where he can justify abusing you.
Your abuser’s apologies and loving gestures in between the episodes of abuse can make it difficult to leave. He may make you believe that you are the only person who can help him, that things will be different this time, and that he truly loves you. However, the dangers of staying are very real.

The Full Cycle of Domestic Violence: An Example

A man abuses his partner. After he hits her, he experiences self-directed guilt. He says, "I'm sorry for hurting you." What he does not say is, "Because I might get caught." He then rationalizes his behavior by saying that his partner is having an affair with someone. He tells her "If you weren't such a worthless whore I wouldn't have to hit you." He then acts contrite, reassuring her that he will not hurt her again. He then fantasizes and reflects on past abuse and how he will hurt her again. Heplans on telling her to go to the store to get some groceries. What he withholds from her is that she has a certain amount of time to do the shopping. When she is held up in traffic and is a few minutes late, he feels completely justified in assaulting her because "you're having an affair with the store clerk." He has just set her up.

Write your post: Tell us about your cause, educate the world about it, let the world know how they can help in the cause. Remember that not everyone will be as passionate as you are about a given cause, but you will help others have a better understanding and will also find others to jump in and offer support to you and/or your cause.
  • Link up your post to share with others. Feel free to grab the linky and post to your page, also. Let's get the word out and start making the world a better place, one post at a time!
  • Be considerate of others causes. Don't post negative comments, attack individuals or groups. THUMPER'S THEORY APPLIES: "If you can't say something nice (supportive, constructive, etc...) don't say anything at all.
  • Make new friends, learn about things that are affecting other people's lives, become allies... You may find some dear friends by following others and showing support for their causes! Find at least a few to follow each time and help spread the news to your followers!
*These can be different causes each time. Many people have various things they are passionate about or would like to open others eyes to.
This week begins #34

Meet Me On Monday ;p

Questions:
1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
2. What do you drink with dinner?
3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?
4. How often do you go to the grocery store?
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?
---------------------------------------------------------------
My Answers!

1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
No, Hubby can't sleep with any light on so I keep a little flashlight on the nightstand in the event of getting up in the night because everything is TOTALLY BLACK to me and I walk into/trip over everything if I don't have something. LOL!
    2.  What do you drink with dinner?
Usually ice water
 and occasionally apple juice.
And on SPECIAL occasions,
SPARKLING CIDER!! OOOH!!

Don't worry, we even have VARIETY!!
Apple-Cranberry
Apple-Grape
Apple-Pomegranate
Apple-Raspberry
Apple-Wild Berry
Apple-Cherry
Apple-Mango
Apple-Marionberry
Apple-Peach
Apple-Pear
3.  Do you play the lottery?  If so, how often?
No
*1 - There is no lottery in UT
However, I lived in FL and CA and didn't there, either.
*2 - It's sad to see so many so sure they're going to
hit it someday that can't even afford LIFE,
but will buy tickets on a regular basis.
It would be better if they'd saved all that
 and paid some BILLS!
OK... I'm done... stepping off my soapbox now... LOL!
 4.  How often do you go to the grocery store?
We TRY to keep it to 1, maybe 2 x week.
There are some things we get at Sam's
and others we get at Macey's or Smith's
Our 13yr old goes through milk like NO OTHER!!
Sometimes we need more milk or forgot something
I needed for a recipe they want me to make.
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?
Hmmmm... The Renaissance, a new beginning discovering different forms of ART; sculpting, painting, architecture, music... That would be rather fascinating... and they did have more of an appreciation for a woman with curves. LOL!!
However, I DO LOVE new technology... which would be so much more advanced in another 500 years... unless of course we're not extinct by then. But then if I'm in the afterlife... I could SO HANDLE THAT!!
SO... Let's pretend the world IS still around and advanced considerably... There would be medical advances that could fix genetic and thyroid problems that cause figure flaws... They would be able to fix any genetic disorders so there would be no more NALD, Down's Syndrome, etc... There would be cures for Cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Lupus, MS, MD, etc... and AIDS! They could fix any chemical imbalances in the brain and there would be no more mental illness...
How would this be for a house on the lake or ocean?
My photography would likely be obsolete by then. They'll probably have 3D Holograms that will play back from memories! LOL!
It's a nice dream, anyway...
I guess I could go either way. HAH!!  ;p

  • My friend Paula is not Christian, but very spiritual in her faith and an AWESOME lady who inspires me on a regular basis. She is going through some BIG life changes and could use good thoughts, prayers, wishes, etc... as support and well being going through her transitions. She is getting married and moving from Europe to America and having to give up so many of her cherished belongings. She will become a step-mom. Any one of these things can be a challenge and she'll be dealing with them all at once. I know this would induce a lot of anxiety for me, too. So Paula, I hope you don't mind if some of us pray for you; it's our way of sending all good things your way. (((HUGS)))
If you have a minute to give them a comment of inspiration and say a little prayer in their behalf, that would be AWESOME!! ;D
